Dindymus Versicolor

Common Names: Harlequin Bug, Harlequin Red Bug

Dindymus Versicolor is a cotton stainer bug (red bug). It is found in south-eastern Australia, as well as Tasmania.

They grow up to 12mm long, have a black head, legs, and bands on their forewings. They are orange-red elsewhere, and when they fold their wings, this makes two orange-red triangles appear on their back, which gives them their common names. Their legs are long for insects of the family Pyrrhocoridae.

They are commonly known as garden pests. They have a proboscis which they use to pierce the tissue of plants. They then suck the sap from these plants, as this is what they feed on. They attack a wide range of plants including: cotton, pome fruits, stone fruits, figs, grapes, kurrajong, strawberries, vegetables, wisteria, dahlia, and violets.

Like a lot of bugs, they mate end to end, which is very funny to look at
